Affordable Housing

Meeting the Needs of Our Growing Community

Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing issues facing Frederick County. As our population grows and housing prices rise, we must ensure that working families, young professionals, seniors, and essential workers can afford to live here.

On the County Council, I’ve supported meaningful initiatives to increase access to affordable housing, not just talk, but real action:

  • We expanded the County’s Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU) program, helping ensure more new developments include homes at affordable price points.
  • We approved funding to support affordable housing projects through our Housing Initiative Fund, which assists nonprofits and developers in creating and preserving affordable units.
  • We worked to streamline permitting and zoning for housing near transit and employment centers, encouraging smart, well-placed development that meets the needs of our workforce.
  • We’ve increased investment in programs that help low- and moderate-income families with home repairs, rent assistance, and down payment support.

Affordable housing doesn’t mean lowering standards, it means ensuring teachers, nurses, first responders, seniors, and young families aren’t priced out of the very communities they serve.

As housing costs continue to climb across the region, I’m committed to making housing affordability a priority through smart planning, effective partnerships, and responsible development.

Everyone who works in Frederick County should have the opportunity to live in Frederick County.
