Meet Brad
Brad W. Young was born and raised in Frederick by his parents Ron and Carol Young. He has three brothers, Brian, Blaine and Alex. Currently, Brad lives in Walkersville with Cheryl, his wife of 36 years. Brad & Cheryl have 3 daughters: Jessica Pecor, Brittany Pirrone & Rachel Young. They have two sons-in-law’s Mark Pecor and Chris Pirrone, and 4 grandchildren Connor, Claire, Nora, and Camden. Brad attended Frederick County Public Schools from kindergarten at North Frederick Elementary through graduation from Governor Thomas Johnson High School.
Financial Experience
Brad W. Young currently serves as president and CEO of Maryland Financial Planners, Ltd. He has over 36 years of experience in providing investment, insurance and trust services. Prior to joining MFP, Brad was the Senior Vice President and manager of the Asset Management and Trust Division of FCNB Bank, which was acquired by BB&T Corporation of Winston-Salem, N.C. in 2001. Brad is a CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™) and a CTFA (Certified Trust and Financial Advisor). He holds a M.B.A. from Frostburg State University, a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park in Economics, and an A.A. from Frederick Community College in business. He is currently working on a Doctorate degree form Hood College in Organizational Leadership. He has completed the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University and the Trust School through Cannon Financial Institute.
Background in Education
Education and working with young people is in Brad’s blood. His father began his professional career as an educator. And his mother spent 40 years working with students in Frederick County Public Schools as a teacher and elementary school principal. Carol Young served her longest stent at Hillcrest Elementary where she opened the school and served as its principal for the first 16 years. He was elected to the Frederick County School Board in 2010, and again in 2014 and 2018. Brad taught Junior Achievement (JA) in Frederick County Schools for over 15 years including teaching Applied Economics at TJ High School for over 10 years. Brad also taught JA at Hillcrest Elementary School. Brad was involved with the Academy of Finance (AOF) through the Career and Technology Center for over 10 years. He has provided internships and Job Shadows for over 40 students. He serves on the adjunct faculty for Mount St. Mary’s University where he teaches corporate & personal finance and investments for the past 19 years. Served 7 years on the Board of Advisors for the Universities at Shady Grove and he served on the Foundation Board for Frederick Community College. Brad served 15 years on the Frederick Community College Board being appointed by 3 different Governors. During that time, he served as Chair for 3 years and went through the process of hiring two new Presidents. Served 6 years on the State Board of Trustees, MACC Maryland Association of Trustees including serving as its chair. Served 7 years on the National Board of Community College Trustees ACCT Association of Community College Trustees, including 4 years on the executive Board and served as their President. He also served on the committee hiring recently retired current CEO Noah Brown.
Community Service
Brad has been active in the Frederick community in many ways. He started through joining the Frederick Jaycees in 1986. He was a member of the executive committee serving as treasurer. Brad taught Sunday School at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ for 10 years. Brad was a charter member of the Frederick Toastmasters. He has been a member of Frederick Rotary for over 20 years. He has been an active coach in Frederick County coaching softball, basketball, and soccer. He coached many teams for GVAA and coached softball for the Maryland Express, Maryland Stars and the Heartbreakers. He coached the varsity softball team at Walkersville High School for eight years and coached softball at Hood College for 8 years. He is currently on the Board of I Believe in Me (IBM) and Love for Lochlin. Brad was active with IBM serving over 80,000 people food during the pandemic. He has also been active with Love for Lochlin distributing over 700 free flu shots to those in need this past year. He also has served on the Frederick Health Hospital Planned giving committee for over 25 years. He was a member and served as President of the Frederick County Estate Planning Council.
